Fomitopsis lilacinogilva.

Synonyms include Rhodofomitopsis lilacinogilva, Polyporus lilacinogilvus, Polystictus
    lilacinogilvus, Microporus lilacinogilvus and Trametes lilacinogilva.

Basidiomycota > Agaricomycetes > Polyporales > Fomitopsidaceae.

Widespread in Australia, growing on dead wood often that of eucalypts.

They may be solitary or form overlapping shelves of fruit bodies.
Thye are usually fan-shaped brackets 3-10 cm across but can be up to 25 cm across and 8 cm thick at the base.
They can also form thick crusts or amorphous masses on horizontal surfaces.

The upper surface is concentrically ridged or irregular.
It is covered in coarse reddish-brown to dark brown hairs.

They are characteristically pink to lilac but may also be red-brown or dark brown.

The rounded margin is pink to lilac.

The pores underneath are round or angular and pink to lilac with 4-5/mm.
The surface bruises to a dark mauve when touched.
Spore print is white.

Fomitopsis (Rhodoformitopsis) feei is similar and also occurs in Australia.
