Dianella brevipedunculata

Dianella brevipedunculata.

Found in S.E. Queensland.
A clump-forming plant with leaves to 1 m long and fleshy roots.
Leaves, with bases sheathing the short stem, are only 1 to 2 cm wide.
Their ends tend to be floppy.
The veins on the lower surface are very close and almost touching.

The branched inflorescences are shorter than the leaves.
They are much branched and evenly expanded.
Flowers are on 1.5 cm stalks.
The blue to purple flowers are less than 1.3 cm across.
The 6 stamens have pale brown anthers up to 2 mm long.
The swelling at the top of the filament is a bright yellow.
There are 2 ovules in each of the 3 locules of the superior ovary.
The berries, up to 12 mm long, have shiny black seeds.

A variegated Dianella.
Dianella ‘Silver Streak’ is very similar in appearance to Dianella ‘Variegata’.
‘Silver Streak’ is sometimes sold as Dianella tasmanica ‘Silver Streak’.
They are clump forming plants with grey-green linear leaves with white stripes.
Inflorescences, with blue or pale violet flowers, are held above the leaves.
Berries are a dark blue.
